Education is an important part of life here in Britain, there are hundreds of schools, colleges and universities where children, teenagers and adults go to learn and improve themselves. Here in Britain, education is free and compulsory for all children who are aged between 5 and 16. There are some children who are educated at home rather than in school but this isn't as common as in some other countries, such as America.
In the UK, there are two stages of school - Primary and Secondary. Children start primary school when they are 5 and then when they are 11 on to secondary school. Secondary school finishes when children are 16 but some people go on to college or sixth form to study higher levels such as A Levels. From the age of 18, people can go to university to study for a degree. This is something that is becoming more and more common in Britain and many adults start a university course at an age much older than 18.
